Never invest for tax reasons
“The only difference between the tax man and a taxidermist is that the taxidermist leaves the skin.” – Mark Twain
Too many people lose huge sums of money because they go into investments solely for the tax benefits. In doing so, they often replace a debt to the tax office by one to the bank. The golden rule is that you always invest on the strength of the investment alone – any tax benefits that go with it should be regarded as the icing on the cake.
