HOW TO COMPLAIN EFFECTIVELY

Don’t you hate it when you call a 1300 number and are left on hold for what seems like an eternity after pressing various buttons that seldom take you where you want to go?  There is a better option – Facebook.  Only recently the power at our beach house went off, and Energex did not seem to want to answer their phone.  I gave up on the phone and contacted Energex on Facebook and was very quickly informed the outage was caused by a backhoe hitting electrical wiring and we could expect power to be restored within the hour.

The following week, I got totally frustrated with an ongoing dispute I was having with PayPal, who promised to refund the value of faulty merchandise.  I had bought a phone case online for $80 which did not live up to expectations, but the only contact with the seller was by email (which they never responded to).  They had no phone number.  After weeks of going backwards and forwards with PayPal and getting nowhere, I simply went to their Facebook page and asked them publicly why they were so difficult to deal with.  Within 24 hours the issue was resolved.  It’s a sad statement on the times we live in when the public face of the company is now more important than the back room
